Creative Trauma-Focused Therapy

Through an integration of traditional therapeutic interventions with expressive arts, Joanne has developed Creative Trauma Focused Therapy.

The activities incorporate art and play therapy, nature based interventions and hypnosis to set intentions for healing that will create ways of understanding one’s self or new meanings to traumatic life events; in other words, resiliency.

Activities Include:

Broken Bowl ® is a healing process based on the Japanese philosophy of

wabi-sabi and the ancient practice of kintsugi. This aesthetic embraces the imperfect and transient. It involves confronting and accepting change; to

Accept one’s wounds and create healing. Moving from loss to creative meaning making.

Broken Bowl ®

Book Making allows an opportunity to explore inner stories for finding

life meaning and supporting self knowledge. The landscapes of our

stories are expressed through the process of making artist’s books as life narratives can be found in the book making process.

Lifestory Book Making

“Process painting” is a creative act that encourages the experience of painting to be more important than the outcome. Without concern for talent, skill or accomplishment, process painting allows one to go beyond the ‘rules’ and go

beyond who you thought you were, taking you on a journey of inspiration, insight, growth and change.

Process Painting

Life story cards follow the process of soul collage® whereby images provide opportunity for understanding one’s experiences in life. Each image provides information that can be used to explore our inner stories that

“serves as a springboard for collaboration and growth among parts of the

self.” This process allows us to understand our life stories through card making, writing and discussion.

Story Cards

Creative Trauma Focused Therapy, is offered through individual or workshop sessions and now as a consultation with your primary therapist.

About Broken Bowl ®

The broken bowl process is based on the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi and the ancient practice of kintsugi. Wabi-sabi is an aesthetic that embraces the imperfect and transient, and kintsugi is the painstaking practice of repairing broken pottery with gold.

These approaches treat the cycle of breakage and repair as a part of an object’s history rather than something to be discarded or disguised. The process involves confronting and accepting change that allows us to move forward to accept our wounds and create healing. Moving from loss to creative meaning making.

Process Painting

Process painting” is making the experience of painting more important than the outcome. The goal of process painting is the creative act itself, without concern for talent, skill or accomplishment.

Process painting allows you to transcend the rules and go beyond who you thought you were, taking you on a journey of inspiration, insight, growth and change.
